Central to the ESMI’s mission is the creation of a collaborative community to pursue new ideas for imaging biological processes

Mission Statement 2025

The European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI) represents the scientific community involved in multidisciplinary molecular imaging science ranging in scale from the micro to the human. This includes basic, preclinical, translational, and clinical research on imaging technologies, methodologies, biomarkers and probes, modelling and data analysis.

The core value and competence of the ESMI is the integration and representation of all imaging modalities and relevant disciplines. Central to its mission is the creation of a collaborative community to pursue new ideas for imaging biological processes.

The ESMI strives to foster the discovery and validation of imaging concepts, to understand physiology and disease, as well as to develop and assess clinically relevant diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

The ESMI – led by international leaders in the field and dedicated to scientific excellence, innovation, integration, and education – shapes the present and future of imaging science by:

  • Strengthening the multi- and interdisciplinary imaging science community by providing an inclusive, international, diverse, and dynamic platform for collaboration.
  • Providing a forum for continuous education, exchange of knowledge, and best practices at the highest scientific level.
  • Offering the early-career scientists –students, postdocs, and technicians –an open and dynamic environment that allows for supporting their career and shaping the future of the field and the ESMI.
  • Stimulating alliances with other fields and societies for promoting exchange of knowledge and innovation.
  • Supporting and advocating multi-national funding and decision-making initiatives and directives that could benefit, advance, or influence ESMI research.
