Looking Back & Ahead

Just one year ago, we announced the partnership between ESMI and npj Imaging – a collaboration designed to promote scientific excellence and provide the imaging community with a dedicated publishing home for your research. One year on, it is the perfect time to look back & ahead and to share what we have achieved so far. We’d like to also extend a warm invitation to be part of this community effort – whether by contributing your research or joining the ESMI as an official member and enjoying the benefits of membership.

1. ARTICLES PUBLISHED

Since August 2025, 80 articles have been published in npj Imaging. Of these, 23 feature ESMI members as first or last authors (28.8%). To acknowledge this community effort and the trust of our members, please find all these articles below*. Overall, 636 authors have been involved in the publications – another wonderful sign of the breadth and interest of the imaging community.

2. (FUTURE) JIF

The principle: The Journal Impact Factor (JIF) reflects citations received in a given year by articles published in the previous two years, divided by the number of citable papers published during that period. npj Imaging is expected to receive its first Impact Factor in 2027. This will reflect citations received in 2026 for articles published in the previous two years.

3. ESMI COLLECTION(S)

Our partnership includes an annual ESMI Collection curated by the society’s President. Edition #1 has been dedicated to IMAGING IMMUNE RESPONSES with 13 submissions so far: 2 accepted, 6 in peer review, and 5 rejected. Hurry to get your work featured – submissions close on 12 September 2026!

Edition #2 has just been launched and features an emerging topic: IMAGING OF AGEING AND RELATED DISEASES – a largely unexplored domain with tremendous potential to transform our understanding of the biological processes underlying ageing.
